Sunday, Nov. 1st 1942 Hi ya folks, Well here it is the start of another month, and we wonder what will have come to pass, by the start of the following month. The answer is a bunch of question marks. Frank, you work to hard writing letters. I noticed you started your letter at 3:30 and finished at 6:00. Gosh you'd think you were already in the army. Thats the length of time it takes me to write a letter. Sure glad you passed your engineers exam. Make the right use of it and you won't have to worry about the army calling you. The Navy, understand, the navy, your to damn old for the army. The guys in my Machine Gun squad average a trifle more than 30 years. I'm 24, another fellow 22, 2-34, -1-37 etc. And they are supposed to fight. They are burned out already. I'm ready to hit the waves anytime. The sooner over the sooner back and thats they day we're waiting for. Grey broke his leg at work last week, more bad luck. He was knocking off better than $140 a week. Mid was getting all primed to find a place of their own. Sometimes I wonder where this "Hell" is located. Yeah, that gas rationing is going to be the dicken's. Thats purely to save ? tho. What do you do to pass away spare time? Nothing down town. Where do you guys meet to gab. Do you go over to Bills very much? Haven't heard from him since being home. How's your girl friend? Haven't heard from Al. Suppose he's working every day. Tell him not to forget his promise if I get a medal over there. ha ha. I didn't know that Mac had a brother that was a doctor in Struthers. Mac is a good boy. We got transferred to diff. Companies. He a machine gunner too. We're doing the same type of training here as we did at Claiborne. Night problems. Came off of one Sat morning. The Rumor has it we to to Texas for actual glider training. We'll get dry runs here. A day run is when you simulate doing the actual thing. Hope you can read this writing. There's supposed to be a couple of Cache's leave here soon. A cache is a group of officers that leave to open up a new division to train them. I don't know whether to try for it or not. A guy can't think here like he would at home. His mind in a turmoil all the time. No jumps yet. I don't know when that will come. That'll bring some enthusiasm to me. The Company Commander went for a place ride the other day and got sick. "So you see what I mean." But it feels good to be working regular turns again. Alma, your sweater fits perfect but I'm not allowed to wear it. The only things we can wear are those clothes that are issued by the army. No Caps with bills, no leather belts around coat waist. We can't wear black ties anymore. Beats the SHIT out of me. I'll wear it over seas to I'll betcha on that. The weather is chilly here. I thought I'd freeze on that problem Friday night. I couldn't sleep for the cold ha ha. I hated to leave La. I bought 12 fellows up with me. I fed them found a place to sleep for them. I never want 12 kids like them, I'll tell you that. At meal time it was run up and down the ? train looking for them. One with a red head, me with a blond, boy oh boy. Sat down one night to eat supper, counted the fellows, there were 12, one missing, I found him, he was willing to miss supper, I didn't blame him. He he. I had breakfast here at the Service Club this morning. Eat here often. Digs into the bank roll but its worth it. Get a good supper for .60. Have your colds gotten better? Hope so. I've got a dozy too. They're mean to have. Got a box of cookies from Elva last week. She sent some of those koda color pictures ? that we took at home. Pretty nice have (over) you seen any? I think the pictures I had taken at the studio are done. Helen's got them. Yours is $2. I think they are ? 8 x 10. I'm not sure tho. If your in Warren go over. Out Mahoning past Summit about 3 blocks. Its Roosevelt . 777. Maybe Helen left yours at Lesters, or has she brought it over? Don't forget the 2 smackers tho. Nothing much of news around here. A Sgt raped one of the girls that works at the P.X. this week. He beat the daylights out of her before he could get to it to do it. Ha ha. (But you can't put that many two letter words in a bunch like that.) I don't imagine it would be worth it. I hope I'm one of the firing squad. I'll stick one right thru his ticker you can bet on that. Some of the girls in the P.X. deserve something like that tho. Some of the girls through every thing up to you but their big toe. Well can't think of anything more so will close for now. Write often whether I answer or not. Will write when I get time. Brother "Chuck" P.S. You don't know where Roy went do you? "Hello to all."
