P.S. Had my first coca cola last week in 9 months. Man was that good, even on a chilly nite. Jan, 17th, 1944 Monday, N. Ireland Hello Folks, I rec'd your letter dated Jan 6, today and one before that dated Dec. 28th. I also rec'd two from Clo and one from Elva. Sure felt good to receive letters for it has been quite sometime since I've gotten any. I guess a fellow gets out of the habit of writing if he doesn't get any mail at least it effects me that that way. P.S. We are to get 11 a week now. Clo tells me that Mrs. Anderson passed away. She's no doubt much better off. She must have worried terribly about Bob. I saw in the Herald where he had had a accident. No I haven't rec'd all of the Xmas packages as yet. Hope they come soon. I got a Xmas card and a letter from M. Eddy. She wrote a nice letter and I answered it. Said she could see my ways in Frank. Maybe thats why she visits you at work Frank. ha ha. I haven't been doing much. A few passes which I spend going to a show or a dance. I poop out at a dance anymore. We have had two dance here at camp. One last Wed which I attended and one New Year's Eve which I didn't. The girls are all very friendly. Some a little more so. Our food here has been about the best we've had since being overseas. We get quite a lot of fresh meats, mashed potatoes and gravy. Another item which we have been getting are greens. I don't know what its called but its plenty good. We have been getting quite a lot of it. Gosh todays me wifes birthday. Hope she got my cablegram in time. Sure wish I could spend it with her. She said she might get leave and spend her birthday at home in her last letter. I am hoping she got to. Maybe it wouldn't hurt to tell you those things but I'm positive the ? would cut it out. You might be able to figure them out by my past letters. I can tell you, however, how long I was in the hospital. It was exactly a month. So far it have shown no reoccurrence. and I hope it doesn't. It was a ! The Lt. and I, we are on guard, were just looking over our snapshots. It makes a fellow feel good and at the same time a bit melancholy if that makes sense. I have none of you folks. Sure wish you'd send one. I can't think of who that person, by name, is that sent that Xmas card from N.Y. Are you sure you spelled the name right. It must be someone Helen knows. Did it say anything besides the signature. Well I guess I had better call it quits. I have a few more letters to write. I want to go to town tomorrow nite. I haven't been out for about a week. The weather stays the same damp & chilly. We had an awfully ? ? night last week too. The early night is most generally very dark. Well Folks thats all for now. I've got to write the little women. I'm OK. Regards to all. So long Chuck N.Y. (1) N.Y.
