England Sunday March 5, 1944 Hello Folks, Gosh I'm so far behind on my letter writing I never will catch up. I'm glad that my not answering letters have not stopped you folks from writing. I'm ashamed of myself. Conveniences for letter writing are not to good here. They will be ok tho soon for we are getting electricity, I hope. I am on duty to nite and I have lights here to will try and answer some letters. There are seven letters in front of me from you folks. I hope this finds everyone ok. I am fine. I have had a little cold but I'll probably hang on to it. How is your mother Alma? I hope she has recovered completely by this time. No I wasn't kidding about the Xmas card. I really sent one. It had our insignia on it and was on a V-mail. I sent quite a few of them. I'm sorry you didn't get it. I'll bet Frank thinks I forgot his birthday too. I wasn't in a position to send a card. You have one coming too Alma this month. This letter should arrive in time and I want to wish you the happiest of Birthdays and many many more! Gosh mine will be rolling around soon too. Tis an ole man I'll be. Frank do you see Mildred Eddy much at lodge? How is she looking? I hear from her once in a while. She's pretty puzzled about whether or not to join the service. Talk her out of it if you see her. You know, she is a swell kid. Your going to build a chicken house. How come only 50 chickens? Make a business is what I wanted. Now I don't know. How come you didn't go over to see Mid when you were in Cleveland? Millie is the person who says you are like me. She told me about seeing you at lodge and she got that impression. Your knit sweater is really the thing here. I can't wear it only to sleep in and it does the job there fine. Ha Ha. Alma us service men aren't getting it, or what did you mean. Looks like Jesse is on the way out doesn't it? Who will they put in next. Glad to know that Roy is coming home. Paul Gillespie is home I see. He looks much the same I think. Clo sent me a picture of him from the paper This is my first letter to you since I've been in England. I liked Ireland much better. The people there appeared to be more friendly. The are to many of us here for the people to bother much. The blacks are heated the same as the whites. They mix at dances without giving it a thought. Not all girls will dance with them however. Can't talk of the weather. Well Folks had better sign this one off. Love Chuck. Where did you get that can planter Alma. Ha Ha.
