1910.1.2Description
Uniform worn by George L. Lyon (1896-1977) during World war I. Mr. Lyon served in the Army from 1917-1919 and was stationed in France. Not wanting to return home in his frayed and worn uniform, he requested that his wife, Ada, send money to purchase the new uniform for his homecoming. The stripes on the right shoulder are for his sergeant's rank. One the sleeves are the black Ohio 83rd Division patch, the red stripe indicating overseas duty and the gold stripe when corporal rank was achieved.Acquisition
