Sunday Nov 14, 1943 Italy Hello Folks, Just a few lines to let you know I am ok and hope this finds everyone ther the same. How is your mother Alma? Fine and strong as ever I hope. I got me a pass for today. I'll go out and have me heart broken again. Gosh what a fellow sees when he's broke, and I'm not talking about women either. They have some nice Cameos here. I have see several I would liked to have bought. I wanted to get Helen a bedspread too. I haven't been paid for quite a long time. There is also some pretty colored raincoats that I would like to get. I had my pictures taken in Sicily and in italy will send you one of each. Hope you Like. yep there's a sneer on me face. (page 2) How did your potatoes turn out? The people here all have plenty of them. We always get friend potatoes when we are out on pass. They sure are good. They fry them in Olive oil and they are crisply fried. But cripes the spaghetti is lousy. I'm glad I never found any real Italian spaghetti back home. The people here are dirty. A guy thinks nothing of taking a leak or a ___ on his way down the street. It's just a matter of course with him. The weather is chilly and damp now making the air heavy. I just got me rid of a cold. I sent out a few X-mas greetings yesterday. Hope you folks have snow for Christmas. We usually have an air raid here every night early in the evening, last night was no exception only it came after I had got in bed. Page 3 It didn't last very long. Clover tells me that Mrs. Gillen passed out. Boy she used to tell me a lot of jokes. I was suprised, she. She always looked strong. Well its about chore time so will bring this letter to a close. love Chuck P.S. Hows your bowling Frank? or don't you bowl much anymore since I whipped you?
