Description

Evangelical Lutheran Church (First English Lutheran Church) located on Quarry St. was formed in the early 1830s. First services were held in a schoolhouse. A church was built in 1837, and a larger one was built in 1850. The church was split into two branches, The German Reform, with services before noon and German Lutheran, with services after noon. The branches eventually unite and the church was renamed German Lutheran and later changed to First English Lutheran Church. A new building was built in 1910 on Quarry St. After the steel mill closed, many members moved and the church was no longer supported financially. It was sold to Greek Catholic in 1940 and the cemetery was turned over to the township.
