Sat Night 7 P.M. Feb 27, 1943 Hello Frank & Alma. Received your letter this week and had better answer while I have time. We've been pretty busy here. I am still at Laurinburg taking glider training. The first two weeks here we were working into the night with our training. This past week we've been running, and flying, problems. We flew down to Florence S.C. and back yesterday. We rode in C-47's. They are the same as the United Air lines used for transports that you've probably seen. They are not as they used to be. I expect to go back to Bragg about the 15th of March. Expect my furlough before that time though; about 9 or 10th. Be home 10th or 11th. I've had two Glider rides and three rides in C-47's since being here. I'll show you what they make gliders out of when I'm home. Then maybe you'd like a ride. There have been a few crashes. The bunch that were here before us crashed 48 out of 60. That left us 12 gliders. Now they had to bring some more in. ha ha. Haven't made a parachute jump yet. I guess maybe they aren't going to let us. That I imaging would be a real thrill. We're taking a course in Rangers training. You've probably read about it. It a little tough. I'm freckled to beat hell and have some grey hair so see what its like here. Went on a problem last Tuesday morning early, it lasted until Wed morn, covered 40 miles. Had K. rations will show them to you when I'm home, 9th-19th. Am strong in legs. Weak in chest. This ranger course will fix that though. Helen is home but her suitcases haven't arrived yet. They routed her funny. She was supposed to ? from Wash. ? on the B.O. and the B.O. doesn't go through Warren. Cripes nothing happens in the burg anymore, huh? What has Al been doing. Haven't heard from him in a long time. Used to get letters from Bill A. but haven't heard from him in a long time. Do you get over to the alley's very much? Do the old boys play bridge very much anymore aren't the women let them out of the house after dark since the young ones are gone? ha ha. We were again supposed to have left for Africa. We're hot and cold and right now we're cold. A cadre was chosen to leave here. I didn't want to go. There maybe another later. I try for that one to. Hope to get a higher rating before long. Damn my clothes are dirty and I'm afraid to get them cleaned, afraid we'll leave before I get them back. I'll have to get them cleaned before I come home though. Well can't think of anything more to write so will close for now. As Always Chuck P.S. You should be a pretty good machinist one of these days, Frank. Hope you can read this scrawling. Gained some weight back weigh 174lbs. Have you got any gas for me to use? If not better get me some.
