Dear Frank & Alma
How nice it was hearing from you today, I'm afraid I've been very neglectful in not writing to you sooner & thanking you for your lovely xmas card together with the handkerchief which is very lovely.
Sorry I am unable to give you any further news of Charles also I do not know the name of his C.O. or his Chaplain, when I wrote to his C.O. the envelope was addressed "C.O. 82nd Airborne Div" I have never had any reply either, & furthermore no satisfaction when I went to the old camp that used to be at Scraploft.
Many thanks for those cuttings out of the papers and we all think the poem is beautifully put together, & could only have been written by someone with great feeling for "Charles", and the picture, Oh! Dear! how I could & did cry when I saw it, the best I've had of him, yes I've two or three all together, but this one will most decidedly decorate my bedroom table.
What a pity your xmas packages were returned, but I guess its just one of those things that can't be helped, we have to take it all on the chin.
It is so kind of you to inquire if we could use a little tea, honestly Alma its the one thing my sister & I miss, dad doesn't worry about it a lot, but Pat & I are really heavy on tea & it come to the time when instead of emptying away what left in the tea-pot we have to save it & heat it up for the next meal, about an hour ago, when Pat & I came home for the day, we drank tea that was made at 7.0 AM this morning, so even the smallest ammount would be most welcome, can you think of something I can send you in return? don't be shy now!!!
Had a letter from Elva too, today, she tells me you've been snowed under, we have too, & coal has been so scarce, the damned pipes have been bursting all over the place, coo! talk about work & worry, tho I'm 21 I'm sure I've done enough working & worrying to last till I get to 41, if I ever survive!!!
The end of March marks the time when I first met "Charles" what a lot can happen in 12 months, but six of them were the happiest ones ever, I guess a memory is the one thing no one can steal & mine are all most treasured, but I hope I have been able to share a few of them with you.
Must close for now & pen away to Elva.
Will endeavour to send you that photo of me, promised long ago - how about one of yourselves.
From dad- Pat- & myself- cheerio, always love to hear from you
Love-from-Jean
