Sample of Barite Ore from Castle Island Mine in Duncan Canal. Heavy irregular shaped grey rock with grey streaks and light brown stain spots. Barite was used in oil well drilling. Background information received from donor in file. Donor was mine engineer of the Alaska Barite Company 1970-1974. Over 600,000 tons of barite were mined from the deposit between 1964 and 1980.
