Description

A modern replica of small Tlingit Tina'a, also called a copper, it represents the Tlingit copper war shield. Original Tinaa was made by indigenous Tlingits using copper ore and later copper lining from ship hulls. It was a possession of great wealth and status, sometimes the owner would give away cut off portions. Tinaa's are distinctive shaped like a rectangular shield divided into three areas by a central T shape. This Tinaa is shiny, heavy-gauge copper without decoration made by Richard Oliver. Small Tinaas like this example are often worn as jewelry.
