Cast iron pestle, black finish, might be mid-1880's era. Has matching mortar. Might have been used by pharmacy or apothecary to crush and coarsely grind herbs & botanicals or by gold mine assayers. No decoration, bat shape with flattened enlarged end to grind. Other end has rounded ball shape.
