Description

Gildersleeve Logging Camp 1970s Right around 1971 the Gildersleeve Logging Camp was at Soda Bay, near Hydaburg, Alaska. Per Richard and Marilyn Gildersleeve: Murray and Elaine Gildersleeve started having church services over in Hydaburg and met lots of locals. Soon they became fast friends with Sam and Elsie Douglas, (Sha-na and Nana) with lots of visits back and forth between the families. After a certain amount of time Murray (Papa) Gildersleeve was adopted into the Haida Tribe, with a full ceremony and gifted the Blanket, Vest, Headband and Banner (All donated to the Wrangell Museum in 2018) - Also, Murray's son Roger Gildersleeve was adopted into the tribe)
