Description

Fairlead stern roller for gillnet fishing boat. Made of wood. Old records call it a trolling roller. This is one side of the fairlead. It looks like a 2" thick wooden board with a narrow 18" wooden roller inserted into top edge. One end is tapered and has a 15" notch cut out of center to slip over the boat transom at stern. Other end has been cut off at a slight angle. A circle (1/4" deep X 4.75" diameter) is cut into the center where the net roller would fit. (see object # 2003.051.004). Together with the matching other side and the roller this would be a complete unit. It is an early example of equipment used on a commercial gillnet boat. Dark brown patina.
