Shaman Housepost. Totem. This housepost stood inside the front of Chief Shakes clan house (X'atgu.hi't- the Dogfish House), on the right side of the entryway. The main figure represents a shaman wearing a dogfish headdress. The wide mouth of the dogfish is above the man's forehead. (The mouth section was restored in 1939). On the shaman's chest is the head of his ye'ik or spirit helper, it's body lies between the shaman's knees and hands. The ye'ik stands on the head of a sea lion, with the head of a dogfish issuing from the sea lion mouth. See file for more details.
