Description

Wooden stake with sharpened end used in fish trap. This is a Tlingit fishing artifact. It is a fish trap stake (or stick) possibly alder sapling with a sharpened end, adze marks clearly at tapered end. Originally it would have been much longer, was pounded into river bed to build a fence like barrier. This lower portion survived because of its location in an anaerobic environment, which eventually changed and allowed it to erode free. Wood is old, very light weight, fragile but still solid condition.
