Description

Women's leather vest. Handmade by Martha James Dewitt circa 1950. White moose hide construction with Killer Whale and Eagle seed bead applique. This native regalia vest has "Wrangell AK" in red seed beads on back, and leather fringe at pockets and shoulders. A unique feature is the three killer whale teeth buttons in front. It is believed that Martha was a descendant of Chief Shakes.
