This work part of a series. "Rose made these faces [Ancestors 1-7] in 2016 for an installation at the Pomona College Museum of Art titled 'Ground: Rose B. Simpson,' which explored her connection to her ancestors. They shared space with two large post-apocalyptic figures, of which one stood nine feet tall and the other crouched, reaching into the earth with one arm. According to Rose, the installation was about the two large figures being held accountable to the ancestors. 'We are never alone. Our actions are never independent of our community and history.'"
