Context

From email correspondence from the artist via Charles Moffett Gallery, September 30, 2025: "“Cuzzo Sharmell, Fighting Battles and Slaying Demons Unseen" captures the inspiration I drew from a coincidental meeting with Sharmell Bey, the cousin of my close friend and artist April Bey. During a trip to the United Talent Agency (UTA) Artist Space in Atlanta, Sharmell and I bonded over health struggles, and the title of the sculpture is a celebration of her going through treatment during that time. Sharmell also participated in the photoshoot we had organized at UTA, and I ended up using a few of the photographs as references to celebrate the natural hairstyle she had when we met in the completed sculpture.” See document uploaded from UTA exhibition with April Bey where details about this work is provided.
