Description

An article discussing the induction of Fred Sloman into the Lion's club of Toronto (central). The first section describes who Fred Sloman is and why the Lion's club not only accepted him but sent funds for his school car. The second section describes a situation where Fred Sloman helped out a young boy who was known as a bad kid and usually was blamed for thefts and vandalism in the area. The lions saw him trying to covet a tractor and bought it for him to tinker with and try to get running. He eventually got it running and it changed the child into an honest man.

Context

Discusses Fred Sloman, as he was a member. Sloman joined the Lion's club of Toronto, and the club raised money and sent supplies to his school car so he could help the students in need. Sloman's school car ran from Capreol to Foleyet from 1926 until 1962. School cars were commissioned by the government of Ontario to provide education to rural Northern Ontario communities.
