Description

A three page article written by Fred Sloman about his experience teaching on the school car. During the article he discusses the length of his route and the eagerness of his pupils to learn, despite the lengthy journey they had to travel to get to the school car. Throughout the document there are also a number of photographs featuring the Sloman family, the pupils, and the school car. Life on a school car was not glamourous however Sloman found it quite fulfilling. He tells a story about a baby being born on the school car in the article.

Context

Written by Fred Sloman discussing his time on the school car. Fred Sloman taught on Canadian National Railway School Car No. 1 which ran from Capreol to Foleyet from 1926 until 1964. School cars were commissioned by the government of Ontario to provide education for rural northern Ontario communities.
