Documents discuss the history of the Depot Harbour line. In the 1860s, the Scottish setters in the area had a desire to have a rail line up to Ottawa for the purpose of shipping timber. In April 1871 the Montreal and City of Ottawa Junction Railway Co was founded, connecting Ottawa to Coteau. By 1879 the Canada Atlantic Railway Co was founded and by the 1880s the construction on track between Coteau to Ottawa began, by 1888 the line from Ottawa to Parry Sound was complete. This railway was later bought out in 1904 by the Grand Trunk RailwayCollection
