Description

Agreement between Canadian National and the Capreol Lumber Company regarding siding to be constructed near Capreol for the use of the Capreol Lumber Company. The siding is to be coloured red and yellow. The agreement outlines that the Capreol Lumber Company is to: pay for the construction, pay to provide the right of way for the siding, pay annually for the use of nonperishable materials, pay for installation and maintenance costs, to keep the siding free of weeds refuse and other combustible matter, indemnify the railway against loss or damage by cattle, comply with clearance requirements, pay all taxes, route traffic respectively, to assume responsibility for to indemnify the railway against loss or damage or injury, upon termination the company must pay for track removal. Context

Original document. Canadian National was created following the end of the First World War, by combining five lines which were financially troubled. It soon became the largest railway in the country. Canadian National Railways was founded in 1919 as a combination of several railways that had become bankrupt and were being ran by the Canadian Government Railways, its primary service was freight but also operated passenger service until 1978 until it was absorbed by VIA rail. The Canadian National Railways was created by the Government of Canada as a means to fund the failing railway corporations including: Intercolonial Railway of Canada, National Transcontinental Railway, Prince Edward Island Railway, and Hudson's Bay Railway.
