Formal agreement for the construction of industrial siding by Canadian National for the use of Lowphos Iron Ore. The agreement states the conditions for the contract as well as which party is responsible for what. Lowphos Iron Ore: paying for the construction, paying to provide a right of way for the siding, paying a rental fee annually for nonperishable items, paying for the cost instillation and maintenance, paying for all repairs, keep the right of way clear from weeds snow and ice, pay for loss and damages caused by cattle, comply with clearance regulations, pay taxes, assume all responsibility for indemnity, pay to remove tracks once the agreement is terminated Mutual: workmen's compensation be paid, the railway has the right to use the siding free of charge, the railway does not accept control of any car or the contents before the car has been removed by the railway, the placement of the car shall constitute delivery of the car and the goods in them to the industry, no assignments or transfer of any rights are valid without railway's consent, the railway has the right to take up and remove the nonperishable materials owned by the railway and all perishable items when the contract is terminated, the railway can terminate if the rent has not been paid within a 30 day time period, all payments must be directed to Canadian National Railways. Context

Original document, original copy of the agreement. Canadian National was created following the end of the First World War, by combining five lines which were financially troubled. It soon became the largest railway in the country. Canadian National Railways was founded in 1919 as a combination of several railways that had become bankrupt and were being ran by the Canadian Government Railways, its primary service was freight but also operated passenger service until 1978 until it was absorbed by VIA rail. The Canadian National Railways was created by the Government of Canada as a means to fund the failing railway corporations including: Intercolonial Railway of Canada, National Transcontinental Railway, Prince Edward Island Railway, and Hudson's Bay Railway.
