Diagrams illustrating flagging rules for single track. It provides rules 40-44 and what the flag colours should be as well as how far apart the flags should be. There is also a legend for the symbols used in the diagrams. It also provides general notes which state:
"Flagmen must be located so that, if possible a clear view of them of at least 500 yards may be had from an approaching train. Under rule 42 the outer yellow signal should be placed so that there will be a clear view of the signal from an approaching train of, if possible 500 yards. When weather or other conditions obscure day signals, night signals must be used in addition. Flags or lights will be mounted on staffs and elevated so there will be an unobstructed view of them from an approaching train. Under rules 41 and 42 the red signal must not be removed except as authorized by the foreman in charge"

Canadian National was created following the end of the First World War, by combining five lines which were financially troubled. It soon became the largest railway in the country.
Canadian National Railways was founded in 1919 as a combination of several railways that had become bankrupt and were being ran by the Canadian Government Railways, its primary service was freight but also operated passenger service until 1978 until it was absorbed by VIA rail. The Canadian National Railways was created by the Government of Canada as a means to fund the failing railway corporations including: Intercolonial Railway of Canada, National Transcontinental Railway, Prince Edward Island Railway, and Hudson's Bay Railway.Collection
