Form, straight bill of lading. On the reverse side the conditions of the bill of lading are listed and on the front there are more conditions listed. The form itself is blank however it has the areas to record: car initial, car number, kind of car, date, waybill number, stop off (if any), name and address of party at stop off point, consigned to and their mail address, final destination, route, shipper's number, station from, shipper, charges to be collected from, shipper's instructions, length of car ordered, marked capacity of car ordered, if charges are prepaid write "prepaid", number of packages, description of articles and special marks, weight, class rate or agreed charge number, freight, amount, fee, total, charges advanced, amount received, agent name and signature, shipper signature, agent signature. Context

Original document, official bill of lading form provided by Canadian National. Canadian National was created following the end of the First World War, by combining five lines which were financially troubled. It soon became the largest railway in the country. Canadian National Railways was founded in 1919 as a combination of several railways that had become bankrupt and were being ran by the Canadian Government Railways, its primary service was freight but also operated passenger service until 1978 until it was absorbed by VIA rail. The Canadian National Railways was created by the Government of Canada as a means to fund the failing railway corporations including: Intercolonial Railway of Canada, National Transcontinental Railway, Prince Edward Island Railway, and Hudson's Bay Railway.
