The Canadian Government Railway operated from 1880 until 1918. The railway was responsible for all federally owned railways including the Grand Trunk Railway, Grand Trunk Pacific, and Hudson's Bay Railway among others. In 1918 the rails owned by the Canadian Government Railway were combined and nationalized into the Canadian Northern Railway, and in 1919 Canadian National was incorporated to run both companies. By 1923 all control of operations was given to Canadian National.Collection
