Pamphlet describing the building colours for all of the types of buildings owned by Canadian National. This includes: stations, section dwellings, offices in baggage express, freight sheds, stores, yard offices, section bunk house, portable station, tool house, pump house, hydrant enclosed shelter, latrines, open shelters , canopies, transfer and milk canopies, ice houses, signal cabins, water tanks and housings, round house machine shops, and coaling plants. There are also miscellaneous structures and items: stock pens, cattle guards, gates, fences, pipe railings, posts, gates, solid fences, wooden gates, gate posts, station name boards, finished coat on steel water tanks.
It also lists what the finish on the exterior walls are and what colours go for the exterior and interior. On the side is a box containing each colour and each is assigned a letter or number (A-K, 3, 14, 15). This number system is used to dictate what colour each item needs to be. In addition there are additional remarks on a side panel with instructions.

Canadian National was created following the end of the First World War, by combining five lines which were financially troubled. It soon became the largest railway in the country.
Canadian National Railways was founded in 1919 as a combination of several railways that had become bankrupt and were being ran by the Canadian Government Railways, its primary service was freight but also operated passenger service until 1978 until it was absorbed by VIA rail. The Canadian National Railways was created by the Government of Canada as a means to fund the failing railway corporations including: Intercolonial Railway of Canada, National Transcontinental Railway, Prince Edward Island Railway, and Hudson's Bay Railway.Collection
