Context

Canadian Northern was originally founded in Winnipeg in 1889, and was a historic transcontinental railway. Canadian Northern operated a line that ran from Quebec City QC to Vancouver BC, via Ottawa, Winnipeg and Edmonton. The railway was essential in creating a link between Lake Superior and the Prairies, which allowed grain to be shipped out of Canada and into other areas such as Europe. It was later merged into Canadian National in 1923.
