Scope and Content

Book describing the history of Elk Lake, specifically on its centennial.

Context

The book was created in celebration of the town's centennial. Elk Lake was originally founded when prospectors in 1905 went up the Montreal River to the township of James. Elk Lake was later incorporated into a town in 1909. Originally, it was the large amounts of silver that brought prospectors up into the area. Later the lumber industry helped develop the area further. The book is a memory based book full of photographs and well wishes commemorating the town's history. The book includes: mining history, settlement history, lumber history, railway history, stores, celebrations, churches, schools, and famous families.
