Instructive guide published by the Canadian Car & Foundry Co. Limited for steel-frame Hart convertible ballast cars with 50 ton capacities, built for the Algoma Central and Hudson Bay Railway Company, in 1924. Note that these cars are equipped to 'side-dump' ballast using a lidgerwood system

Context

The bulletin includes: diagrams, description, drawings, specialties(body), specialties (truck), interior end view showing apron, end view, plan elevations showing main dimensions The Algoma Central Railway was founded in 1889, operating between Sault Ste Marie ON and Hearst ON. The original purpose of the railway was to transport iron ore and logs from the Algoma District to Sault Ste Marie. The railway corporation also had a shipping service, employing the use of four steamships since 1900, this service expanded in the 1960s and was used to transport goods along the Great Lakes. Up until 2015 the Algoma Central Railway offered passenger service between Sault Ste Marie and Hearst.
