Stedmans was founded in 1907 as Stedmans V &S, it was a discount variety store. The Macleod was a sister store as it sold hardware during the 1960s Macleod-Steadman was a combination store which combined the discount store and the hardware store. In 1992 it was purchased by Cotter Canada, later called by Tru Serv Canada which later became Ace Canada. In 2020 Ace Canada was purchased by Peavey Industries
