Context

The International Transit Company, originally called the Sault Ste. Marie Electric Light and Transit Company was founded in 1888. By 1903 the name was changed to the International Transit Company. It originally ran streetcars, and continued to do so until 1942, when diesel buses took over. In 1942 the name changed again to Algoma Steel Corporation Transit, and by 1964 it was changed to the current name of Sault Ste Marie Transit Services.
