Canadian National branded Northern Ontario District Pass issued to Mr. F. J. Johnson, an instrumentman. The pass allowed Johnson to travel on any passenger or freight train in the Northern Ontario District. The pass was good from 1951 until 1952. The pass was valid from 1955 until 1956. The pass however was not valid on Nos 6, 7, 8, and 15 between Montreal on Toronto. The reverse side also has more conditions listed. Original document, original pass issued to Fred J. Johnson in 1951 giving him access to all trains in the Northern Ontario District. Johnson was working as an instrumentman at the time the pass was issued. Canadian National was created following the end of the First World War, by combining five lines which were financially troubled. It soon became the largest railway in the country. Canadian National Railways was founded in 1919 as a combination of several railways that had become bankrupt and were being ran by the Canadian Government Railways, its primary service was freight but also operated passenger service until 1978 until it was absorbed by VIA rail. The Canadian National Railways was created by the Government of Canada as a means to fund the failing railway corporations including: Intercolonial Railway of Canada, National Transcontinental Railway, Prince Edward Island Railway, and Hudson's Bay Railway.Collection
