Canadian National branded Northern Ontario District pass issued to F. J. Johnson, an assistant locomotive engineer. The pass allowed Johnson to ride on both passenger and freight trains to stations in the Northern Ontario District. The pass was valid from 1955 until 1956. The pass however was not valid on Nos 6, 7, 8, and 15 between Montreal on Toronto. The reverse side also has more conditions listed. Original document belonging to Fred Johnson. The pass allowed Johnson to travel on any passenger or freight train throughout the Northern Ontario District between 1955 and 1956. Fred Johnson was working as an assistant locomotive engineer at the time. Canadian National was created following the end of the First World War, by combining five lines which were financially troubled. It soon became the largest railway in the country. Canadian National Railways was founded in 1919 as a combination of several railways that had become bankrupt and were being ran by the Canadian Government Railways, its primary service was freight but also operated passenger service until 1978 until it was absorbed by VIA rail. The Canadian National Railways was created by the Government of Canada as a means to fund the failing railway corporations including: Intercolonial Railway of Canada, National Transcontinental Railway, Prince Edward Island Railway, and Hudson's Bay Railway.Collection
