Description

Canadian National branded periodic examination card. The card was issued to J. C. (Joseph) Gaudaur in 1971. The examination card recorded both his physical as well as his vision, colour sense, and hearing exams. It took place on June 15th, 1971 in Capreol, Ontario. The card has the areas to record: physical, V. C. S. & H., name, occupation, place examined, glasses for: near/distant vision, are/are not necessary, colour sense, hearing, R /20, L /20, date,signature of examiner. The reverse side of the card is in French. Distinguishing Features: White coloured card with black and blue ink

Context

Original document belonging to J. C. Gaudaur. Canadian National was created following the end of the First World War, by combining five lines which were financially troubled. It soon became the largest railway in the country. Canadian National Railways was founded in 1919 as a combination of several railways that had become bankrupt and were being ran by the Canadian Government Railways, its primary service was freight but also operated passenger service until 1978 until it was absorbed by VIA rail. The Canadian National Railways was created by the Government of Canada as a means to fund the failing railway corporations including: Intercolonial Railway of Canada, National Transcontinental Railway, Prince Edward Island Railway, and Hudson's Bay Railway.
