Context

Contains historical photographs, maps, and context to tell the history of Canadian National's Northern Ontario District. Canadian National was created following the end of the First World War, by combining five lines which were financially troubled. It soon became the largest railway in the country. Canadian National Railways was founded in 1919 as a combination of several railways that had become bankrupt and were being ran by the Canadian Government Railways, its primary service was freight but also operated passenger service until 1978 until it was absorbed by VIA rail. The Canadian National Railways was created by the Government of Canada as a means to fund the failing railway corporations including: Intercolonial Railway of Canada, National Transcontinental Railway, Prince Edward Island Railway, and Hudson's Bay Railway.

Notes

Signature of W. E. Hancock Transcription: "Capreol, Ontario, April 30, 1968. Mr. R. A. Brankley Engineman, Capreol. On the morning of April 28th you were called for train 304. This was an error due to the change of time card and its related problems. You explained the situation to the crew dispatcher, and although you had been home only a very short time yourself, offered to take the train and lay over in Brent, rather than see the train delayed waiting on an engineer. Your co-operation and assistance in this matter is highly commendable and we would like you to know that it is sincerely appreciated. for: H. A. Rosseau Asst. Superintendent"
