The book discusses the history of the St. Anthony's mill which was constructed in 1894 in Whitney, Ontario by the St. Anthony's Lumber Company. The lumber company later founded the Whitney and Opeongo Railway in 1902 in order to transport the logs from Opeongo Lake to Whitney to go to the sawmill. The railway line also connected to the Canada Atlantic Railway allowing for the processed logs to be shipped out.
The book also discusses the history of logging railways and building connections to the Canadian Shield in order to ship out their natural resources and develop the lumber industry in Northern Ontario.
