The Old Diversion was created as a result of the creation of the Canadian Northern Railway's line, on the west side of the Vermillion river. It was originally the main line, used by Canadian Northern between 1906 and 1915 for the run from Toronto ON to Capreol ON. The main line was moved in 1911 to the east side of the Vermillion to make the connection to the branch line from North Bay. The Old Diversion was home to approximately eight families between the 1920s and 1940s. The families who lived there had no electricity or running water. However, by 1952 all of the buildings and houses were abandoned and demolished.Collection
