The Algoma Central Railway was founded in 1889, operating between Sault Ste Marie ON and Hearst ON. The original purpose of the railway was to transport iron ore and logs from the Algoma District to Sault Ste Marie. The railway corporation also had a shipping service, employing the use of four steamships since 1900, this service expanded in the 1960s and was used to transport goods along the Great Lakes. Up until 2015 the Algoma Central Railway offered passenger service between Sault Ste Marie and Hearst.Collection
