Context

The book is the story of Rebecca Nolan, the daughter of Herbert Nolan who from 1913 until 1919 was the Divisional Superintendent at Brent, in Algonquin Park. The story discusses living in a rural area and both the struggles and happiness associated with living in that area. The book is told from Rebecca's perspective who at the time was approximately 3 years old when her family moved from Sudbury, Ontario to Brent to live in a boxcar in the Algonquin Provincial Park. Rebecca Nolan became a nurse in 1931.
