Patent Documents for Charles E. Herrmann's (of Scarsdale, New York USA)petition to the Commissioner of Patents of the United States Patent Office for Letters Patent for "new and useful improvements in briqueting ore concentrates. Patent no. 1155311. The petition includes a clause stating that the Letters Patent are to grant Moose Mountain Limited of Sellwood, Ontario, Canada and its successors exclusive rights to "make, use, and vend said invention". The petition was signed and sealed by J.T. Newton, Acting Commissioner of Patents, on the 28th of September, 1915. The document contains four pages with technical drawings of the invention, and a specification (three and a quarter pages long) from Charles E. Herrmann describing his improvements for briqueting ore concentrates, signed by witnesses W.H. Allyn and E. Bradford. The sheets are bound together with a blue ribbon, and there is an official United States Patent Office seal (red, with the image of an eagle with wings spread in the centre) on the bottom left corner of the front cover. There is a black and white image of the Patent Office centered at the top of the front cover, inside an ornate frame. At the top of the frame is an eagle with wings spread, to the left and right there is a seated man, turned to face the patent office. At the bottom of the frame is the United State of America flag, inside a shield. The rear cover is blank.Context

2019.003.002a The front cover is in good condition. There is a slight crease vertically down the middle, and vertically along the left side of the sheet, to the right of the ribbon binding, where the sheet has been bent. The top left and right corners of the sheet are slightly creased where they have been folded over. Four holes have been punched in the paper, two in the top quarter of the sheets, and two in the bottom quarter. Small metal rings have been fastened in each of these holes, and the surface of these rings is slightly rusty.
2019.003.002b-r These sheets are in very good condition. There are slight creases vertically down the middle where the sheets have been bent. Four holes have been punched in the paper, two in the top quarter of the sheets, and two in the bottom quarter. There is an metal paper fastener attached to the pages which is beginning to rust.
