Scope and Content

Book discussing the concentration of iron ores in the Moose Mountain area, located in the township of Sellwood, in the Hutton township in the District of Sudbury.

Context

The Moose Mountain Mine, located in the township of Sellwood, Ontario operated from 1907 to 1920. The property was leased from the Moose Mountain Limited from Lowphos Ore, a subsidiary of the National Steel Corporation. It was an iron mine. Sellwood became a ghost town shortly after the mine closed. In 1959, the National Steel Company began operating in the area and removed the remains of the previous townsite due to open pit mining. The new mine closed in 1978. The book begins with a letter from the Superintendent E. W. Davis of the University of Minnesota's Institute of Technology: Mines Experiment Station and then goes into the report. The report is broken down into sections and includes blueprints as well as maps. The report also discusses various tests and methods for measuring the iron as well as extracting it. The sections are as follows: 1. Summary 2. Part I: Moose Mountain Report 3. Part II: Plant Design and Cost of Construction and Operation
