Lamprey Collection of Photographs and Documents

Description

The first Lamprey to live in this area, Henry Lamprey, came to Hampton in 1660. His grandson Morris Lamprey (1711-1809) lived in the Little River area before 1742 when North Hampton separated from Hampton. This farm remained in the family for five generations and still exists today at 63 Atlantic Avenue. The collection spans the years 1893 to 2003 and includes numerous photographs of people, Lamprey homes, farm buildings, animals, farm scenes, and carriages as well as photographs of the Lamprey Brothers fuel dealers, North Hampton’s 250th anniversary parade and the Lamprey Belgian horses. Business receipts, a map of the Lamprey land in 1963, deeds, and numerous newspaper articles are also included. Photographs and documents from the Lamprey Family Collection were provided by D. Morris Lamprey and Joanne Lamprey Collection also includes diaries of Austin, David J., and D. Morris Lamprey ranging from 1891-1989. Diaries are matter-of-fact brief descriptions of weather and specific tasks of the day. They have not been digitized but are available to researchers. It is important to note that Jo Lamprey was an enthusiastic supporter of the North Hampton Historical Society. Her support was greatly appreciated.
