Name/Title

Peter Lamie's " Smokey Joe " Miniature Steam Train

Description

" Smokey Joe " was a beloved miniature steam railroad that operated at Rock Nook along Route 1 in North Hampton, NH during the 1940's and early 1960's. The tiny railroad was owned and operated by Peter Lamie and became a major roadside attraction for families traveling the New England coast. The train ran on about 1,000 feet of 15-inch gauge track through a grove of pine trees at Rock Nook. Children rode in two small passenger cars while " Engineer Pete " operated the locomotive. The engine was a detailed miniature steam locomotive - 4-4-o model, complete with whistle, bell, coal tender, and real steam power. More information is available at the Lane Memorial Library in Hampton, NH.
