Title: The Empty Sea, 2001/ Artist: David Rhodes
A skeletal fish made of wood painted in a bright turquoise acrylic paint. Fish has design marking on tale and ribbed protrusions.
Materials: Wood, epoxy glue and acrylic paint
Long wooden, teal & green skeletal fish.
Body is assembled to look like fish bones/spine.
Open, toothless mouth
Carved eyes
2 fins attached near where the head is attached to body - one fin on each side. Fins are green w/ an eye painted on each one. One eye has a dark red pupil/iris and the other is a bright red pupil/iris.
Museum Marking= Archival paper tag attached through hole drilled in center.
13 spines attached to top & 12 attached to bottom of fish.
Tail fin is attached and has an eye painted on esch side
Signed on one side at tail end on center spine support in green = "Rhodes, 2001"
Front fins are stabilized with one screw each
Primarily teal & green w/ white & yellow adornment.
Each spine is tipped with a green then white then yellow horizontal stripe consecutively.
Hole drilled through center support for possible hangingCollection
