A three-quarter portrait of an older lady wearing a dark dress with a white collar and an over-jacket with short cape closed at the neck with a frog fastener. She holds a book in her lap and both of her hands are visible. Her hair is parted in the middle and curls frame her face. The back part of her hair is caught up in a white crocheted snood with a tie behind her left ear.
