Subject (1811-1871) was the wife of General Daniel Donelson. She was one of nine children of John Branch (1782-1863) and Elizabeth Foort. John Branch graduated from the University of North Carolina in 1801, studied law, was a judge in the Superior Count, a State Senator, Governor of North Carolina in 1817, US Senator, then Secretary of the Navy under President Jackson
