Morgan Welles Brown was born in 1800 in Clarksville, Tennessee, to Morgan Brown and Elizabeth Little Brown. He read law at the office of his brother, William Little Brown, Tennessee Solicitor General and, later, Tennessee State Supreme Court Justice. After being accepted to the State bar, Brown opened his own law firm in Nashville. In addition to practicing law, he served as editor for the Nashville Republican in 1832 and 1833. In 1833, President Andrew Jackson nominated Brown to be a US District Court judge in Tennessee. During his judgeship, Brown served as a commissioner for the construction of a new Tennessee State Capitol. He served on the bench until his death in 1853. He is buried in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Nashville.Create Date
