Description

One color photographic postcard of the little red school house interior. The furnace is in the center of the image, with the benches, podium, bookshelf, chalkboard, and main table visible behind it. A window is on the right wall. The back of the postcard has information that states: "A wood stove was essential in this 'Little Red Schoolhouse' (1837) at Oberlin, Ohio, warming nipped ears and toes. Also a sturdy recitation bench, side benches equipped with slates and slate-pencils, a blackboard with various suggestions for improving the morale, and a Declaration of Independence scroll." There are two copies of this postcard.
