1922-2011 Born in Hawaii, Takaezu received her early training in ceramics in Honolulu, and then attended Cranbrook Academy in Michigan. Takaezu was an influential teacher and mentor at the Cleveland Institute of Art, Princeton University and other institutions. She is best known for her ceramic exploration of closed, multiple spouts and lobed forms, but also experimented with large-scale textiles and paintings. Takaezu is the subject of numerous publications including journal essays, exhibition catalogs, and monographs.
